Hogh-Christensen: Danish Sailing Team Manager at SailGP

Jonas Hogh-Christensen, Olympic silver medal winner is going to lead the national sailing team of Denmark for the second edition of SailGP, the team going for the competition announced. They will be joining with six other national teams who will return shortly after the inaugural season. Hogh-Christensen came second in the Finn class at the London Olympics 2012 after a tough fight with Sir Ben Ainslie, star sailor from Britain. Ben will also join the SailGP 2020 season.

Hogh was the leader throughout the regatta until the decider race when Ainslie reached one spot earlier than the Dane which helped to get the gold medal for fourth straight time. He also clinched the record of getting a gold Olympic medal in sailing for five consecutive years.

US Sailing Made Announcement for Fresh Requirements of Multihull Safety Equipment and Monohulls Revisions

The  Safety Equipment Requirements (SER) in US Sailing for monohull sailboats have a guideline, but these guidelines have been changed a bit and fresh guidelines for multihull SERs have been permitted. The fresh guideline will be implemented in the year 2019.

According to the SERs, gears that are required to be used on sailboats during most of the offshore and nearshore sailboat races in the US. All race organizers, boat inspectors, and owners are required to follow this information.  This list of boats and equipment characteristics will serve the requirements of the most races taking place in coastal and offshore in the year 2019.

RNO, Oman Handed Over The Sultan Qaboos Sailing Trophy

The Ministry of Defence which was represented by the Royal Navy of Oman commemorated the Sultan Qaboos Sailing Award which happened at Seville in Spain which was held between November 28 and November 2, and this award giving ceremony also coincided with the 48th National Day which is celebrated by the Sultanate on the anniversary of their establishment.

This award handing ceremony took place under the aegis and support of the Kefayah Bint Al Rasiya, who is Sultanate’s official ambassador to Spain.

Countdown For Pinnacle Youth Event Begins

The annual Youth Sailing World Championships started in 16th July with 382 sailors aged between 16 and 19. The sailors took part from 66 nations of Corpus Christi Bay in Texas. The competition is a pinnacle event mainly for young sailors aspiring to reach Olympics or pursue a career in America’s Cup. Some of the winners in the past have reached greater heights and they are Ben Ainslie of Great Britain, and Russell Coutts and Peter Burling from New Zealand.

Among the 9 events, there are few medalists from last year in the regatta this time. One of the most renowned competitions includes the Boy’s Laser Radial. It is indeed the largest as there are 58 entrants at the regatta. Guido Gallinaro, the bronze medalist from Italy returns, this time to go on top of the podium as he finished 6 points off the victory last year. In addition, there are others from top 10 namely Josh Armit from New Zealand and Tiago Quevedo from Brazil.

VOC: BRUNEL GOES INTO STEALTH MODE

As the seven competing teams race to the finish line in Cape Town, Team Brunel opted to go into stealth mode. The Dutch crew cloaked their position for up to 24 hours. They were behind leaders MAPFRE by 35 nautical miles but then they decided to switch tacticals and go hidden around 0700 UTC.

The southerly boat crew benefitted from being the furthest from the Brazilian coastline as they rose in rankings from the last to the second place. The team decided to take the gamble just as MAPFRE is set to face the easterly-moving cold front. The northerly winds are expected to be around 30 knots as the team comes within a few hundred miles from their target. Towards Cape Town, there should be ideal conditions for fast sailing.

Eventually, Brunel switched tactics at 2200 UTC as the team navigator Andrew Cape earlier wanted a southerly route. The stealth move that was supposed to help them get past MAPFRE into the lead rather ruined their rankings as they dropped into fourth place.

MAPFRE continued strongly in the lead while Dongfeng entered second place. The race director for the team Bruno Dubois said their summer experiences helped them know how to make a boat go faster in the breeze. It helps them with half a knot in performance but it is crucial. Dubois said the MAPFRE team was doing the same thing to maintain their lead.

Vestas 11th Hour placed third while AkzoNobe finished behind Brunel after Leg 2. Scallywag and Turn The Tide On Plastic followed, in that order.

Al Lusail Successfully Completed Her Sea Trials

The 123 meter Project Jupiter of Lürssen superyacht has been spotted on sea trials, holding her official name “Al Lusail”. The delivery of the yacht is expected to take place soon by the end of this year.


This was the highly secretive project of Lürssen superyacht and it features architecture of in-house naval. The exterior work of the yacht has been done by the British studio H2 Yacht Design. The flowing lines present at the yacht blur the boundaries, which is present between the yacht’s upper four decks to create a dynamic look

Although, very few information is present about March & White interiors of Al Lusail or the engine set-up, however, so far it is understood that the Jupiter project was created according to the standards of Lloyd’s Register.

The full-displacement steel hull present on the yacht supports the aluminum superstructure of the yacht and the teak decks. When the yacht will be delivered to her owner this year, it will be officially ranked as one among the largest superyachts in the world. Son And Father Team Up For Raising Fund

To raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis, A STONE, son and father have been taken on the sailing race that is the worlds biggest.


Cliff Goodwin the son and Michael Goodwin the father will join the yacht race Round the Island in the honor of his brother Dan. Dan died after suffering from Cystic Fibrosis disease.

The race will take place on July 1, and it will go around the Isle of Wight coastline.

Talking about the race, Cliff said: “Dan is found of sailing and his love for sailing gets double when he is with me. He used to enjoy sailing with my Dad and his grandfather until his health didn’t allow him to go on the water. We have undertaken this challenge and hoping to raise a good amount of funds for the work of charity. This challenge is going to be hard and there is no possibility of mistake. Marion Bermuda Race Entry Open

Marion Bermuda Race has started taking entries for the event and it is getting excellent response from all over the world.


During the first 15 days of opening the entry 30 boats registered themselves for the event. As the days are growing number of entries are increasing. Till date 48 boats have registered themselves in which 18 are a first timer into the race. The number is two more than last year final count. The race for Marion Bermuda will take place in Massachusetts on June 9 2017.

Marion Bermuda Race has taken place since 1977 and since that time it is the premier ocean race of 645-mile. It is one of the events that attract enthusiast of racing and cruising.

Women’s World Match Racing September 23rd

The US team in the Women’s World Match Racing championship gained an early lead on September 23rd.


There were three women’s matches that started off at Sheboygan on September 23rd. These included the Women’s World Match Racing championship, 2016 WIM series and the Buddy Melges Challenge. All three competitions started off on September 23rd. About 12 or more flights have sailed the waters and Stephanie Robie, a Wisconsinite has taken the lead. She currently leads her team in Lake Michigan. She stated that the first matches were fun and close sailing for them.

There had been delay in starting the matches previously as there had been no wind and with fog conditions. The sailors were put to the test as they wandered about the shore, waiting for wind and waves to happen. The morning of 23rd September was beautiful as the sun rose clear and there was a northerly breeze. La Bise greets SSL Lake Grand Slam

Tough racing situations offered a tactical 1st day of racing at Star Sailors League Lake Grand Slam arranged by Cercle de la Voile de Grandson in Switzerland. Clouds emerging above Jura Mountains meant that the arrival of the chill northerly wind, which is known as La Bise, interpreted as ‘the kiss’ that funnels down the valley between the Jura Mountains as well as the Swiss Prealps.
